I think you have to take it a step further, though. Just going there and attempting to speak will not give you thorough understanding. You should take a course on basic spanish before you go and at least learn about the basics of conjugation and syntax. That way, when you actually visit a spanish speaking country, you will not be learning wholly in an auditory situation and you will have some background to improve on!
