  • Although Spanish is widely spoken in the Western Hemishphere, this is not the case in the Eastern Hemisphere. It’s not spoken, understood, or even studied that much in Africa, Asia, Australia, the Middle East, or Northern and Eastern Europe. The main language that most people in the world study outside of their own is English. After that would be French and Mandarin Chinese.

I would not expect this to change in the future unless the Spanish countries step it up on the global business front.

  • It’s only a global-language to the extent that it’s widely-spoken in this Hemisphere.

If you go to Europe, most will think you’re speaking some strange dialect of Italian. It’s only really spoken in Spain itself, and isn’t really considered an “international language” there.

Spanish may become more important to know as the Latin American countries develop and advance more and more, but as of now, you can get by fine in Canada or the U.S. without it (unless you need a job in Spanish Harlem or Miami).

  • Spanish is important in South America and Spain. Somewhat useful in America. But it is not widely spoken anywhere else. Yes there are a great many speakers, but there are way more speakers of Mandarin (Chinese). These speakers are concentrated in one area, hence not as important as a widespead language such as English, or even French.

  • I don’t know, but from what I know, Spanish is only spoken in Spain, and then on the American continent, and few countries/territories here and there.

For instance here in Egypt, nobody speak Spanish.

    It isn’t.

Mandarin Chinese has more speakers than any other language.

More non-English speakers speak English than non-Spanish speakers speak Spanish, so that there are more total speakers of English.

And there will most likely NEVER be a single global language…at least not in our lifetimes.
