I’m trying to get a head start learning Spanish before the new semester starts. I went to the library and took out one of those “easy learn while you drive” language sets which include 4 tape cassettes and a lesson guide. After playing the lessons over and over, I find that I have almost no retention of the language.
Am I doing something wrong or are these sets ineffective?
Any advice will be appreciated.

My daughter’s Catholic school has a growing native Spanish-speaking population. Isn’t it a waste of time for these kids to have to sit through grade-school Spanish language class, learning about the words for cats and dogs and such?

Maybe the school should switch to another foreign language so that all the kids are on the same page?
