What’s the best/quickest way to learn to understand spoken Spanish?
I’ve been taking Spanish classes for years now. I can read it, write it and speak it pretty well, but I have a really hard time understanding it when it’s spoken quickly by native speakers. Any suggestions on how to understand what people are saying?

How can I convince my parents to let me switch classes (Spanish to Art?)?
I take the IB Diploma, and I’m in the first semester of grade 11.
These are my subjects:
Group 1: English A1 HL
Group 2. German A2 HL
Group 3: Economics SL
Group 4: Biology HL
Group 5: Mathematics SL
Group 6: Spanish Abinitio SL
My spanish class is SUPPOSED to be for complete beginners. I’m the only one in my class who actually IS total beginner. I don’t speak french, portuguese, or any other latin and very closely related language to spanish. However, the other four people in my class (yes, a very small class) have this: one of them speaks portuguese, and lived in brazil for ages, and has had spanish in lessons before. Two of them (siblings) have had a year of spanish and lived in Chili. One of them has had 2 years of spanish and is really good at it. I, on the other hand, have never had spanish classes whatsoever. The teacher, who also speaks Catalan and has a VERY strong spanish accent, seems to have the opinion that she should hence make the workload harder for us because most of us are doing so well. I’m not. She also seems to think that her job as a teacher is to get us through the exams, and that’s it. Because what she told us to do was to write out a script, learn it by heart, and then regergetate this information in oral and writing exams. I find this idiotic, because I’m not taking Spanish to pass the exams, I’m taking it to learn Spanish. Also, she tends to give us a sheet or tell us some vocab and expect us to learn it without her ever writing it down or going through it. She thinks we will learn things just like SNAP! And most of the people in my class do, but I don’t, because I have nothing to compare it to, nothing to link the verbs and vocab to. The grammatical part isn’t that bad, but all the vocabulary I have to learn is ridiculous.
Now, I want to change to Visual Arts, which I did not do in the MYP, but I do a lot of Artsy stuff in my free time. Plus there are no exams. I would be willing to catch up and everything, make a portfolio, etc…
However, my parents don’t want me to. They want me to have a 3rd language. I do too, but I’m not gonna learn Spanish like this, and neither am i going to pass the IB, because it’s too hard. I want to go into Graphis Design or Advertisement later on, and I’m taking a gap year so I can do a foundation year in Art as well, but they often have requirements for that, too. So, how can I convince my parents that taking the spanish course is a complete waste of time and effort? I am using up more time at home for Spanish than for any other course, and it’s an SL not an HL course so I don’t think it’s right. Thank you!
Sorry this seemed like way too much stuff but if you read it through I’ll be really grateful!!
